Once you have your qualifications, it can be hard to know where to begin in this process. When I set up my business 8 years ago I wasn’t yet qualified and didn’t have a clue what I was doing. All I know is that I was passionate about wanting to empower my community but also terrified about my lack of experience.
With hindsite, I would have been great to have a therapist with business experience to hold my hand through to ride the emotional and practical waves with me over the first few months. Also, I wanted to know how to navigate racial stress as a black woman alongside growing my business.
This unique business offering aims to provide clear, trauma informed, interculturally focused guidance to experienced or newly qualified black mental health professionals on how to set up or reset your private practice.
In this experience, I will share my experience, hope and tools to coach you through building and nurturing the foundations of business. With live classes on racial wellness, financial therapy, money management, planning and visions, sales and marketing alongside all the legal stuff, you will leave feeling confident and set up for success inside and out.

Before we get into the practicalities of setting up in private practice, it’s essential that your wellness rituals are in place as the firm foundation to build, grow and maintain your business. This offering is a first step, inner strengthening portal in preparation for effective business building. In these sessions we’ll explore:

- What is your relationship to work and grind culture.

- Setting boundaries for work / life balance.
- How to create a nurturing work space.
This offering runs over 6 sessions for 6 weeks.
Module 2: Foundations and Money Moves
In this offering we'll explore the practical tools needed to set up your private practice. including everything you need to learn about making money as a therapist. Topics will include:
- Your business vision and planning.
- The legal checklist. ie HMRC, insurance, GDPR etc.
- How to set up your back office systems.
- How to create a simple website.
- Money trauma, triggers, underearning and compulsive spending.
- How much should you charge?
- How to make it easy for clients to pay you.
- Bookkeeping and knowing your numbers.
- Financial therapy and nurturing your abundance.
This offering runs over 9 sessions for 9 weeks.
Module 3: Client attraction and marketing.
Once all your back office systems are set up, how do you actually get clients to start working with you? In this series we’ll explore:
- How to market your services to attract clients.
- Ethical considerations.
- How to build your authority.
- Simple content creation tools.
- The power of social media marketing.
- How to deal with fear of visibility.
- Simple sales funnels.
This offering runs for 6 sessions over 6 weeks.
Module 4: Maintaining your private practice.
Now that your private practice is live, these sessions will help you learn how to maintain and grow your business. Topics will include.
- Managing your day to day practice.
- How to manage admin.
- How to build your confidence as a therapist.
- What does ongoing therapy, professional and personal development look like?
- How to deal with difficult clients.
- Exploring racial transference.
- Compassionate customer service.
- How to deal with quiet periods in private practice.
