YOG25: 15 Reasons Why Black Self Love is Important.

Greetings Family,

I’m so happy to be hearing a lot more Sista’s talking about practicing black self love. It means that a lot more of us are being vocal about our vulnerabilities, and the need to take better care of ourselves.

I don’t want the concept of self care to just become the latest buzz word or that it’s just all about essential oils and taking extra naps, so today, I’m using the show to share 15 powerful reasons WHY black self love is an important revolutionary practice that we should be smashing the sh*t out of. Every. Single. Day!

When we take this stuff on like a beast, we can strangle our internalised racist and dismantle the external system of white supremacy at the same time!

Dive in! Enjoy! Execute!

YOG23: Addiction, Pain and Recovery Solutions.

Greetings Fam,

Yesterday, was the anniversary of my brothers death.

After many years of using drugs and alcohol, his body gave up on 6 November 2012.

He was 46 years old.

In today’s podcast, I share how the impact of his death keeps me committed to SLAYING in recovery and serving my community.

How do you define addiction? Do you think it’s all about drink and drugs?

In this episode, I also teach how black pain under the system of racism, manifests as different types of addictive and compulsive behavior.

Black self respect means being truthful about your pain.

Black self love is about asking for help.

If you’re struggling with addiction and want to learn more about 12 step recovery,

you can listen to the ‘Recovery for Beginners’ episode here.

Be open. Be willing. Be the change.

Till next time

YOG21: Are You Addicted To Misery?

Greetings Family,

In  today’s episode, I explore how pain and childhood chaos can create a ‘comfortable,’ addictive cycle of more pain and chaos. I also share about my own compulsive fear of being happy during my entrepreneurial journey.

Finding The Courage To Change

Greetings Family,

Imagine 25 years from now……

Do you want the next generation to still be struggling with self hate and white supremacy?
Will you be the armchair activist only expressing keyboard outrage?
I know you don’t want that.

You want to live in a world which honors your culture, accepts you for who you are, and rewards your God given gifts. Challenging this system is scary, but you do have the power to destroy it.
If you really want to manifest a legacy of empowerment, your future needs you to find the courage to start taking action today.

Take one moment at time, to face your truth and own how you enable white supremacy.

There was a time when I was terrified of opening up because of my black shame.

The pain and fear of passing old trauma onto my daughter became the catalyst for building a legacy of hope and freedom for her and my community.

I certainly didn’t know what I was doing, but my surrender and searching for answers told the Universe that I was ready to change my life.

Your courage will seed, the moment you become open to your truth.

The late Dr Maya Angelou said,
“One isn’t born with courage. One develops it. And you develop it by doing small, courageous things.’

Just for today,

I will remember that often the things that cause me the most pain, can turn out to be my greatest triumphs.

Every baby step of courage is also a revolutionary act of self love- June Allen

Your affirmation today is.
Courage is my classroom for lessons of self love and black self respect.

Till next time, take care of you, so we can take care of each other.

The Reason Meditation is Hard.

Greetings Fam,

During a wonderful time camping out in nature, it was great to slow down and reflect on where I am and how I can continue to serve you on your journey.

Although the rest was well needed, I also noticed how hard it was to wind down and meditate. Today’s episode reveals the lessons inside the silence.

Be empowered.
